Description THE Singapore Tourism Board (STB) and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) are encouraging the use of public transport from 20th September to 2nd October when travelling around the Marina Centre and Suntec City vicinity.
The upcoming 2008 Formula One SingTel Singapore Grand Prix entails all roads servicing these areas to be closed to make up the race circuit, including the service roads for supporting vehicles.
While the race will take place in and around the Marina Centre from 26th -28th September, the setting up of the final stages of race infrastructure before the race, as well as its dismantling after the race, will take place during the closure period. All roads will be fully accessible by 05.00 on 2nd October.
To continue business within Marina Centre with minimum interruption to commuters and race spectators going into the area, LTA will supply shuttle services between Marina Centre/Suntec City and City Hall and Bugis MRT stations from 20th-29th September. The back to back shuttle service will allow people to move more quickly.
Except on the race days ending at 19.00, the shuttle service is scheduled to operate as normal from 06.30 to 24.00.
During the temporary road closure, the public transport providers will ensure sufficient capacity provided to accommodate the surge in commuters.
Meanwhile, STB and LTA are also in talks with all Singapore Hotels in the mentioned areas to make arrangements that will minimise inconvenience to hotel guests so they can get off and board transportation from the hotel lobbies. |
